USA Today: Schools Using Breathalyzers

October 16th, 2007

In a continuation from our last blog entry, there is a front page article in today’s issue of USA Today that highlights the growing problem of teen alcohol use and the use of breathalyzers as one of the key methods to fight this problem.  This article highlights a school district in Pequannock, NJ, that has implemented the use of breathalyzers citing the improvements in breath alcohol sensing technology.  The current trend among high schools that activate an alcohol testing program is to screen students before major activities, such as sports events or the prom.

Charles Lee of AK Solutions USA, LLC (PersonalAlcoholTester.com) was contacted by phone prior to the writing of the article and is quoted in the text.

Drug Testing in Schools

September 14th, 2007

Underage drinking is becoming a more prevalent problem in recent times, and many school districts across the country have been implementing random drug testing programs at school-related events in order to prevent drug and alcohol abuse among students.  The superintendent of the Edgewood, OH School District contends that all schools in the district have ongoing substance abuse problems, and he intends to implement a widespread drug and alcohol testing policy (including Breathalyzer testing) to address the issue.

There are already many such programs already initiated in school districts across the US, and although there are certainly some concerns about privacy, these programs have at least managed to contain and/or control the problem for the benefit of school communities.

The AL3500 was showcased during “The Bar Show” earlier this year at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City.  The Bar Show exhibitors included bar owners, large brewers and winers, microbreweries, restauranteurs and bar-related technology presenters.  Our booth attracted lots of attention from both industry professionals as well as curious attendees, who gathered in crowds to try out the coin-operated breath tester for themselves.

You can see a short clip of an attendee using the AL3500 in the Slate video coverage of the event.

Side-by-Side Review (Popular Mechanics)

September 2nd, 2007

Welcome to the PersonalAlcoholTester.com blog.

The AlcoMate Prestige was featured in the November 2006 issue of Popular Mechanics.  The Prestige performed very well against several competing products.  According to the article, the Prestige was tested to be “highly accurate, coming within just 0.004 of the control unit’s readings on average.”  The final evalutaion from the article: “We can’t endorse the BreathKey, and while the AlcoHAWK’s accuracy surprised us, the AlcoMate Prestige was more reliable.”
